Last night many Americans witnessed a brutal attack when Miles Garrett ripped off Mason Rudolph’s helmet with 4 seconds left in the game and hit the Steelers quarterback in the head.
Miles Garrett was the Browns number 1 draft pick in the 2017 NFL draft. He played college at Texas A&M and was rated as a five-star recruit. In college, Garrett accumulated 141 tackles, 31 sacks, and one interception. Since arriving in Cleveland, he has recorded 30 sacks, six forced fumbles, and started in 37 games. He has been a big reason for the Brown’s improvement over the years.
Tensions were running high throughout the night, but Cleveland would walk away with a 21-7 win over the Steelers and their replacement quarterback Mason Rudolph. Earlier in the season, Pittsburg’s starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his elbow, which required surgery that subsequently ended his season. Since his week two injury, Big Ben has been playing quarterback coach on the sidelines and looking forward to next season.
The day after the attack seen on TV, the NFL’s senior vice president Michael Signora released a statement announcing Garrett’s indefinite suspension. The statement says that both teams will be fined $250k. In addition to Garrett’s indefinite suspension, Cleveland’s Larry Ogunjobi was suspended for one game, and Pittsburg’s Maurkice Pouncey was suspended for three games. Each player will also have to pay individual fines stemming from their actions.

As you can see in the tweet above, each of the players will be suspended without pay, and Garrett will not be able to play for at least the rest of the 2019-20 NFL season. Going into next year, Garrett will have to meet at the commissioner’s office to address his reinstatement. It looks like the NFL is going to make an example out of him.
Both the Steelers and Browns were preseason favorites going into the 2019 NFL season, but both teams have fallen on hard times. With both teams sitting in the middle of the pack halfway through the season, it is no surprise tensions were high; both teams desperately needed a win. In a press release, Brown’s coach Freddie Kitchens told the media that he and the other coaches would support Garret as a family does a brother.
