A few weeks ago the NBA free agency season began with a bang when Kevin Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets. In the first few weeks, several other big names have agreed to contract deals with other teams as well. Here is a look at what we currently know.
Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets increased their odds when they announced they signed Kevin Durant to a four year $164 million deal and Kyrie Irving to a four-year $141 million deal. These deals were finalized in the first week of free agency and within a few days of each other.
LA Lakers
Last year the Lakers made a deal with LeBron James with the intent of developing a team around the superstar. Unfortunately, this past year was the LeBron show with a whole bunch of young talent surrounding him. In 2018 the Lakers went 37-45 and failed to make the playoffs despite LeBron on the court.
Last week the Lakers were able to secure Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. Davis is an all-star center and a big body that the Lakers desperately need. Rumors are swirling that the Lakers have their eye on Kawhi Leonard.
Golden State
The free agency market has not been kind to Golden State so far this season. While the Warriors have picked up DeAngelo Russell, they have taken a hit losing Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala.
New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans won the draft lottery and picked Zion Williamson with their #1 pick. They were also able to work a trade deal with the Atlanta Hawks and acquire more draft picks. However, losing the big man Anthony Davis will greatly hurt their odds over the next few seasons.
Kawhi Leonard
Kawhi Leonard has been a highly sought after player for a few years now, and it seems like he might be planning his next move. Rumors have swirled around Kawhi, some say he is going to stay with the Raptors, other say his eyes are set on LA. Sports Illustrated has recently reported that his decision could come as early as July 5th.
Online Sportsbooks
Online sportsbooks have already adjusted their odds, and currently, the Lakers are favored o win the 2019 Championship. Brooklyn’s odds also jumped, but since Durant is expected to miss the majority of the next season they are not favored to win the Finals.
