This Saturday, the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course will go down in Baltimore, Maryland. Once the order for the nine 3-year-old thoroughbreds was set, Triple Crown fans rejoiced as Mystik Dan was a part of the field at Preakness.
Doubts were cast on Mystik Dan’s availability following his win at the Kentucky Derby, as his trainer implied that he had not performed well on two weeks of rest in the past.
The odds for betting on the Preakness Stakes at our best-reviewed 18+ sportsbooks originally placed Mystik Dan as the second overall finisher with a moneyline of +350. Leading the pack in the pre-race betting odds was Muth, who was favored at +120 to win the $2 million purse before being officially declared scratched from the race this morning.
2024 Preakness Stakes Odds To Win
1. Mugatu +4000
2. Uncle Heavy +2000
3. Catching Freedom +600
4. Muth +120
5. Mystik Dan +350
6. Seize The Grey +1400
7. Just Steel +1600
8. Tuscan Gold +600

Muth did not compete in the Kentucky Derby because his owner, Bob Baffert, is banned from inclusion in any races at Churchill Downs. This prohibition is due to one of Baffert’s horses testing positive for a banned steroid in 2021.
“We are sick about this. The horse had been doing really well, but we have to do what’s right by the horse.”

Baffert’s horse was Medina Spirit, the 2021 Kentucky Derby winner who finished second at Preakness and third at the Belmont Stakes. He appealed to have Muth included in the Kentucky Derby this year to no avail.
Now that Muth has been scratched from the line-up, online racebooks are recalculating their betting odds. Based on prior Preakness futures, Mystik Dan is expected to ascent into the lead when lines reappear, suggesting that he’ll capture the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
BetUS is the only book that has a line posted for betting on Triple Crown winners, but the odds are not favorable at the moment.
Will There Be A Triple Crown Winner In 2024?
- Yes +900
- No -2100
Potential 9-to-1 payouts are on the table for anyone who bets on MystikDan to win the next two legs of the 2024 Triple Crown. Bets made on this prop should be done before Preakness because the profit potential will drop to near-even should Mistik Dan win this weekend.
The race will begin at 6:50 PM this Saturday evening and can be seen on NBC or streaming on Peacock.
