Amari Cooper And Davante Adams Trades Modify The AFC East

Both the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets acquired top-tier wide receivers via trade yesterday. Davante Adams was traded to the Jets from the Las Vegas Raiders, and Amari Cooper is now a member of the Buffalo Bills after being traded from the Cleveland Browns.

Each team appeared to counter each other with these moves in an attempt to keep pace in an AFC East that the Bills have dominated since Tom Brady left the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019.

NFL betting sites still see the Bills as the top team, but the combination of Adams and Aaron Rodgers will undoubtedly impact the Jets’ immediate future for the better.

Details Of The Davante Adams Trade

  • The New York Jets Get: Davante Adams
  • The Las Vegas Raiders Get: The Jets 3rd Round Draft Pick In 2025 (Can Become A 2nd If Qualifiers Are Achieved)

In order for the Jets’ third-round pick to become a second, Adams will need to be named a first or second-team All-Pro. The Jets must also make it to the 2024-25 AFC Championship Game with Adams as a part of the active playoff roster.

With a 2-4 record, the Jets are two games behind the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East standings. The divide is broadened by their Week 6 loss to the Bills.

The question is not whether Adams will make a difference. His past performance with Rodgers is proof enough. What remains to be answered is if the Jets have enough time to make it to the NFL Playoffs now that they’re two games below even.

Details Of The Amari Cooper Trade

  • The Buffalo Bills Get: Amari Cooper, The Browns 6th Round Draft Pick In 2025
  • The Cleveland Browns Get: The Bills 3rd Round Pick In 2025, And Their 7th Round Pick In 2026

After a 1-5 start for the Cleveland Browns, they’ve decided to part ways with WR Amari Cooper and change their focus toward future seasons. The failure to connect with quarterback Deshaun Watson is likely not Cooper’s fault, which will be proven over the coming weeks with Josh Allen throwing him the ball.

Buffalo stands at 4-2 and appears to have a lock on the AFC East division lead. Cooper has the potential to open up the Bills offense and provide clear throwing lanes to other receivers.

The addition of Amari should assist with the rushing game as well, as opposing defenses will have to respect Cooper’s ability to stretch the field.

The Bills’ and Jets’ odds for betting on the Super Bowl have both improved slightly since these trades were completed.
