If there is one good thing that the world got out of this pandemic, it’s groundbreaking television. Streaming giants have started pumping exorbitant amounts of money into TV specials and limited series. And it has paid off, with a few beautiful diamonds in the rough.
With award season right around the corner, it’s fair to say this year’s pickings are ripe. The first show on the lineup is the Emmy’s and they have already released their nominations.
Streaming Dominates the Emmys
Among these nominees are Disney+’s The Mandalorian, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, and Netflix’s The Crown. Each of the shows is well-deserving of their nominations, with all-star casts and cult followings rallying behind them.
Nonetheless, it’s important to acknowledge that most of the candidates for the Emmy Awards are products of streaming services. Even smaller video streaming corporations like AppleTV received spots on the narrow list of nominees.
The lineup demonstrates a not-so-gradual shift towards streaming. Cable television and cinema viewings have been dying off over the past decade, but it seems that 2021 really sealed the deal.
Under Bovada entertainment odds for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, six actresses are listed for their performances in five different shows. Even so, the betting line really displays a competition between two streaming services: Netflix and HBO Max.
This isn’t to say that the Emmy Awards are any less legitimate than they were in the golden era of cable television. I tore through Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit in a single sitting and relished every moment of Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance.
Betting on New Turf
So, to clarify, the claims here are more so an observation of media trends. Which is the name of the game when it comes to betting with sportsbooks.
Odds for entertainment betting tend to come and go, but they can reap huge wins. At the Oscars earlier this year, bettors took home huge wins when Anthony Hopkins won best actor over the fan-favorite Chadwick Boseman.
While there are always award show predictions from major publications, there’s no way to really get an in on what goes on in the judging room. Popularity isn’t even a predictor, as many of these media awards occasionally swing for obscure and/or foreign films.
These entities aren’t afraid to go against the grain. Despite any calamity made after the fact, their decisions are set in stone. There is no push that can alter the results one way or another.
Vanity Fair has already released their prognosis on the situation, with especially high anticipations for The Crown.
But when it comes to entertainment odds, the best advice we can give is to go with your gut. Quite frankly, the Emmy judges don’t care what Vanity Fair thinks of their picks.
