With the NCAA’s March Madness tournament set to begin on March 15th, 2020, 18-year-old bettors are starting to look for favorable lines to play and sportsbooks that will accept their bets.
Domestic sportsbooks have exploded across the US since the Supreme Court announced the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018. The PASPA act essentially banned sports betting in the United States from 1992-2018 at the federal level, excluding Nevada, Montana, and Oregon. Now that federal gambling laws have changed, states are free to enact any sports betting bill they choose.
Despite the 16 states that now allow domestic sports betting, there is only one that currently accepts bets from 18-year-old bettors; New Hampshire. Another five states are working on launching their domestic sportsbooks, but only Montana and Tennessee of those five will allow 18-year-old players. The other states only accept bets from players over the age of 21.
18-year-olds should not be discouraged as there are other legal online options for players to bet on NCAAB games. Offshore sportsbooks like Bovada, Betonline, or MyBookie will all accept US players over the age of 18, giving that they live in a state that allows online betting. The only states that ban offshore sites are Washington and Connecticut, but others, including Nevada and New Jersey, both restrict access by blocking the sites within their borders.
Signing up with an offshore site is secure, and players can often find online bonus offers that will boost their bankroll from the get-go. Our only suggestion is that you use our 18+ Sports Betting Guide to find legitimate sites with fast payouts, legal licenses, and other industry-standard factors that our sports betting insiders recommend.
In addition to Men’s basketball betting lines, you can also find Women’s basketball betting lines. Offshore sites typically have betting lines for more sports than you can imagine. Some sites even offer other services under one account, including poker, casino games, live dealer games, horse racing, and more.
When it comes to betting on the March Madness tournament, it is best to lock your lines early because as the 68 teams wind down to the final four, the odds will shift dramatically. Professional sports bettors will pick several teams and weigh their money on their favorites. The key to winning big during March Madness is picking the winner and locking in a line early. In addition to future odds listed below, you can also find game lines and prop bets for the tournament once the games are announced.
